'VILLA URBAIN'
Villa Urbain serves as both a tribute and a critique of Le Corbusier's famous 'Five Points,' re-interpreting them into a new living machine that focuses on sustainability, adaptability, and community: three aspects of life sorely neglected by the Le Corbusier machine.
Each of these is examined at three scales: the full tower, a pair of floors, and the individual units. The tower and the surrounding park house the broadest systems in the machine, including energy production and water treatment. Distinct 'Neighborhoods' are created within the tower by pairing floors together, with each neighborhood are created within the tower by pairing floors together, with each neighborhood containing a community space, open offices, and street-like corridor intended to encourage interaction. Finally, there are the individual units, comprised of prefabricated boxes that can be craned into place in the tower, allowing dwellings to literally move and grow with their occupants.
Corbusier's five points are re-imagined to create a project more aligned with contemporary life: pilotis help create large public spaces under the tower, movable units create a free plan and facade throughout the tower, long expanses of glass flood the dwellings with light, and gardens accompanying each residence provide space for growing food, while also giving each dwelling a stronger connection to the outdoors.
